PROFILE MAN 01 SEMARANG A. BACKGROUND State Islamic Senior High School 01 Semarang Indonesia (well known as MAN 01 Semarang)is located in Jl. Brigjen Sudiarto Semarang. Formerly, this school is called “SP IAIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.” It’s based on the decision of the Ministry of Religion Affairs Department Number 17/1978. So, it has been thirty years old. As old as This school has been managed by eleven head masters. Now the head master is Drs. Syaefudin, M.Pd. In the beginning of 2003, MAN 01 Semarang had been one of the piloting projects in performing the competence based curriculum (well known as KBK) within 7 MANs and 5 MASes in all over Indonesia. Responding the desire of the society, MAN 01 Semarang improves the quality of services by opening immersion class program in which the instructional teaching and learning is performed in English. On the other side, the teachers are also prepared to be able to execute using English as a means of instruction. This is hold under the guidance of State University of Semarang (UNES). The school also provides boarding for the students, especially for those who are in immersion program. They stay in the boarding to enhance the curriculum, either religion teachings B.
